My turbo trainer turned up yesterday, so after Lily and Louise had put up the christmas tree, I took the opportunity to set it up (very difficult I hasten to add!) and have a bash. I was knackered after yesterdays ride home, so didn’t want to overdo it, but found the whole thing rather exhilarating! The resitance (10 settings) is a fantastic thing to have, and now I want some of the Tacx DVD’s that flash up on the side when you need to change resitance, so you can sample some of the great tours in history – I just refuse to pay £29.99 for them…. If anyone knows anywhere cheaper (start at Usenet if you must) then please let me know.
My stats for the Turbo Trainer will now be over on the right hand side underneath my normal stats. I’ve decided to keep them separate as there’s not a chance on earth I could manage 3 minute miles on my commute, so would rather keep that data pure.
Commute this morning was good. I thought I would be a little bit tired after the commute yesterday and an extra 5 miles on the Turbo – I still managed a good pace. Traffic was smooth towards the end of my journey so being able to maintain 29mph for over a mile and a half without stops always helps.
Not much to report on the incident front too, although a car was indicating so I started to move out to take the corner and then he changed his mind, which left me in front of an oncoming van. I quickly unclipped and backtracked whilst apologising to the van driver, who took it in good jest and thumbed me (oo-er).
I also seemed to piss off a commuter or two because I was able to keep up with them (on purpose, I wasn’t trying to overtake) and then cream them on the hill – neither of them liked that, prompting one to cruise through a red to get away.
I also realised (I suppose this should have been at the beginning of the post) that, on a hill start, I can beat a moped over 400ft with ease
Hopefully I’ll be able to post some video footage on the tube of you later.
Morning Commute:

I hated the journey tonight. Really hated it. For two reasons and two reasons only… One – I was cycling up Plymouth Grove minding my own business when two little shitheads thought it would be funny if one of them threw an opened (with liquid) bottle of lucozade at me… They also thought I would cycle on and ignore them… Apparently, after I’d caught up to them (only takes 10 seconds with the bike to foot ratio) they thought I was a car and thought that would be alright.
Stupid little twats.
Then, as I was coming back out of the road still full of anger, a car beeped at me for no reason.. Perhaps they thought that I was going to cycle right out in front of them? Well apparently, as I’d caught back up to them and tried to get them to stop – the mother commented to the daughter “oh, I didn’t realise it was a cycle lane”.
Fuck you.
That just drained all my energy and I couldn’t be arsed.
Then I get home to be told that some little shit at nursery has stabbed my daughter in the back with a pair of scissors. The nursery aren’t allowed to tell you who – but my daughter quite happily will. So, if the parents of George Radcliffe would like to come and apologise to my daughter on their sons behalf -that would be great – if not – shame on you, as you know he’s done it, and you won’t be able to look me in the eye next time I see you.
I’m going now, I’m pissed off.

I’m officially well jealous of the turbo. Annoyingly I once had one, but I gave it away to someone as I wasn’t using it.

Ah sorry – I would suggest you buy one, but with the amount you’ve spent recently, I don’t think your OH would appreciate!

Yeah, I don’t think anyone will be getting xmas gifts this year. It’s all about me and my cycle stuff. Screw them! (I’m jesting of course. They will all be getting at least one satsuma from me!).

One Satsuma? Bit generous – how about one raisin?

Sounds good. Which trainer did you go for? They are many pennys especially if you want to connect it to a PC. I bought a second hand one off bikeradar at much cheapness but it doesn’t have variable resistance, you use your gears for that apparently. Also got a cheap sweat capturing thingy, mainly as somewhere to put the remote control
Not used it yet but hope to get the road bike clean enough to be allowed indoors at the weekend. Then again I might be working
I need to get it out and functioning a) because I paid for it, b) because I need to get fit and c) to give me the incentive to produce SiTT…

I went for the Tacx Sirius – funnily enough – the one shown in the image at the top.
Resistance is good because you can then alter it so it feels like your going up hills. Using just gears is like cycling on a slight incline.
I used the Secteur on it, as its not being used at the moment – so is nice and clean anyway
And yes – hurry up and produce SITT.

Yes Rafe, it’s better to produce SiTT, than to be full of SiTT. Or so they say.

Just two things:
1. Why didn’t you help put up the Christmas Tree?
2. I loved my trainer until it got caught in a flood and is now full of mud.

I was busy editing videos for Fight Bad Driving – you know, the site people visit but never pissing comment on
And yes, I loved your trainer too – she was very useful, until she got clogged with mud.
