Gonna be brief at the moment, but will update with all the details later, but have just arrived back absolutely shattered after completing an 85 mile journey – my longest to date.
Total Distance: 85.61 miles
Total Time: 6hrs 26m 45s
Max Speed: 33.8mph
Avg Speed: 13.3mph
Max H/Rate: 174bpm
Avg H/Rate: 132bpm
Total Ascent: 2,856ft
The day didn’t start off well, with a taxi driver opening his door into my direction. I confronted him with a police “Don’t worry mate – I’ll keep an eye out for you” to which he replied “Look at you all cocky now you’ve got a bike”.
Grrrrrrr.
Of course, I rose to the occassion and said “Thats funny that – I also have a nice car parked outside my house that I KNOW how to drive”.
He then muttered something about hitting me to which I replied that I would get off my bike and smash his fucking face in – and the lights turned green.
Met Emma Rush at Mozzers 50ft later and we made our way to Parswood where me met Chris.
From here, Chris navigated us to the start of the Manchester 100k route and the Garmin GPS took us around the route.
I stopped and took photo’s of each place name we came across, but some of them where not sign posted, so am changing the rules of the Cheshire Challenge.
Emma took off for Sale, and Chris disappeared through Didsbury where I picked the Fallowfield Loop and headed back over to Hyde Road and onwards home – just 2m 22s into the Chelsea – Arsenal game!
I’m now awaiting tea, as all I’ve had is a Snickers Due, Cream Egg and Caramel Egg, plus 1.5l water and 2 bottles of lucozade sport – so I’m starving hungry!

Cheers Joby, I really enjoyed it. Well….. most of it. I need to keep upping the fitness and I’m hoping the speed will follow. Thanks a lot to you and Chris for hanging around for me, waiting for me to catch up.
If you’re not out next Sunday, I might try and join a high peak cycle ride, if they are doing one.

Brilliant! Can’t wait to see the Cheshire Challenge update… intrigued about rule changes. Did they involve sign photos? Maybe you could do shop fronts, if any are left in the high streets…

John Berry – Cheers. I was surprised at how little food I needed to get me that far. When I did the original Manchester 100k I was starving all the time.
Redbikes – Was only going to do a 100 miler a week if I quit commuting on the bike. Fingers crossed I don’t have to do that because there is no way I can do 100 miles a week in one go!
Emma – no problems. You’ve improved greatly since the Manchester 100 despite not going out on your bike much
Crimmey – why did you think we wouldn’t?
Clive – wish I had the stamina (for cycling) that JohnB has.
Matt – cheers
Phill – Rule change… mmm.. I really don’t know what to do yet – I need to look at the Manchester 100k route and see. It was very difficult in places like Peeover to find a road sign without having to go off the beaten track. As for shops… There’s just country lanes in some of them… Any other suggestions are welcome as I’ve got 30 towns / villages to cross off

I really enjoyed yesterday, good ride, good company.
I agree about the food. I only had 1 Snickers bar, 4 slices of Malt Loaf and a bottle of water. I made up for that when I got in though!

You can’t do 100miles a week YET.

GPS track images? Like the crappy Google maps on my blog – you could embed a big map on your Cheshire Challenge page, circle the towns & villages & date you went through them, hyperlink to photos? Your iPhone will gps tag them, won’t it? Then you have an audit trail if people don’t beleieve you, too.
I really should get some work done now and stop thinking this through….

Chris – I didn’t even eat like a pig when I got in.. I had roast pork, 3 slices of bread, roast potatoes, brocolli and carrots and then a chocolate pudding with custard.
Red – I’d better get used to them with some Cheshire ride coming up in March.
Phill – I hate taking pictures on the iPhone – its shit.

Well, think about the map idea. You could show your routes and tick off towns, even without photos. And it’s so much nicer than a list (in my opinion). If I actually went anywhere, that’s what I’d do.

I was going to put a map up there anyway – its stored in my google maps

Give me a yell when you do a nice long 100.
(But only if it’s a dry warm day)

I thought red rides whatever the weather!
Joby, I just thought you might have cut the ride short as you all weren’t used to the distance. Every time i go out I always think of turning back points and easier routes/ ways home as I don’t always feel like riding what ive planned. Usually i ride on my own though and i get very bored.
The hardest thing now is to keep it up but you seem like a determined lad

Crimmey, I think me and Joby are as determined (stupid) as each other. I dont think we would admit to wanting to turn back, even if we were half dead
Look at the Holmfirth Ride last year, what doesn’t kill you…
Oh and are you a dad yet?

Whoop whoop!
My wife was in for three days – came out on Christmas Day
And “you” won’t be there a good few days – let them kick you out – get some rest before your life changes for ever! (But for the good of course)

Not had to wait but yes, take the advice and get some rest. If your missus doesn’t she’ll need you to fend off unwanted visitors while she rests next week! All the best.

@Crimmey: “I thought red rides whatever the weather! ”
I try my best to be a fair weather rider only; but I keep getting caught out.
@Joby: I will probably be riding to/from Stockport and I will be on a single speed/ fixed so I doubt I will cope with silly hills. (It’s 40 miles each way to stockport for me making the whole route 180miles!)
