I find things like this very interesting, and after chucking out a few songs to @lisam75 today on Twitter, I decided to post this. Basically, I want you to go through the letters of the alphabet and name your favourite artist from each letter, and your favourite song by them.
I’m doing it for selfish reasons, as I like knowing what people listen to – and it always gives me great ideas on what to listen to next. Here is my list (queue slagging off for my ‘taste’ in music):
A – Arcade Fire – Keep The Car Running
B – Byrds – Mr Tambourine Man
C – Cribs – Mens Needs
D – David Essex – Hold Me Close
E – Erasure – Freedom
F – Filthy Dukes – Nonsense In The Dark
G – Gerry Rafferty – Streets of London
H – Happy Mondays – Lazy Itis
I – Inspiral Carpets – This Is How It Feels
J – Jose Gonzale – Heartbeats
K – Killers – Mr Brightside
L – Lily Allen – The Fear
M – Mumford And Sons – Little Lion Man
N – Noah & The Whale – Five Years Time
O – OMD – Forever Live & Die
P – Pet Shop Boys – Left To My Own Devices
Q – Queensryche – Silent Lucidity
R – REM – Me In Honey
S – Simon & Garfunkel – He Was My Brother
T – Two Door Cinema Club – Do You Want It All
U – Ultravox – No Regrets
V – Velvet Undergroud – I’m Sticking With You
W – The Who – My Generation
X – struggling – any suggestions?
Y – Yazoo – Nobodys Diary
Z – struggling, any suggestions?
Now off you go – time to beat me up because I picked some lame tunes

Christ that was actually REALLY hard, sure it is not 100% as there is SO much I listen too, but each of the songs listed has some special memory attached to each of them. I guess it is a fairly “mainstream list” but hey, we all like different stuff! although it would appear that most of my music is “old skool” hell, Im getting old

Fleetwood Mac and Dire Straits – great calls. Can also see from your type of music that you wish you had long hair

Amy Macdonald? ROFL! And you commented on David Essex
Glad to see I brings up the same choice for us. I had also but Crescendo by James for J, but then moved it for Jose Gonzalez (first song I heard after leaving the hospital after the birth of Lily, so has to take first place).
As for Rocket Man – I prefer the Stewie Griffin version…

Sometimes though I have like 10 ideas instantly for a certain letter, and almost none for another (not referring to minimal letters like X, Z etc).
What’s your “favourite music letter”.
Mine tends to be “The …”, any band with the is pretty much class (Who, Kills, Lightening Seeds, Cardigans, Clash, Coral, Cranberries, Doors, Kooks, Mamas and Papas, Prodigy, Verve etc etc) other than that i’d say “M”.
