Set off a little earlier today. I’d woken up early to do a Mottram Rd tag on to our commute, but Gary was suffering from “Man Flu” again – claiming his neck was as swollen as Bilal from Basket Case (A little know fact is that Jesus performed 14 miracles in a row with Man Flu and he never complained once):

I can't... I've got a cold...
He was waiting for me at the top of Devils Hill and we set off. Speed was pretty good and I could see that a PB was on the cards if I pushed myself, and traffic lights where my saviour.

A lot of the old farts you pass probably do these. Think Aesop.

Where you in this group? To be fair they looked knackered, as though they’d done a fair few miles.
Some of those rides look pretty awesome on that site too.

Certainly not, I’ve never been overtaken by a hybrid.

Only joking, I’m certainly not hybridist. I own a Ridgeback Bullett hybrid, had it for 8/9 years, I use it with a trailer for supermarket runs and big bags of dog food errands etc. Out of all the bikes I have, it really is the utility bike (i’m saving for a surly big dummy), I did my first triathlon with it, and with a change of tyres I’ve had a go at cyclo-cross on it too. You never know how hard or little people are trying or how long they’ve been out when you pass them or they pass you. You’ll have to do a TT or enrol on the beginners/taster class at the velodrome. I don’t care what bike somebody owns, it’s all about getting out there and enjoying it.

I really do fancy the veldrome – have checked out the prices and stuff, just need to find some time.
I imagine that its really busy though.

Cheers mate. I downloaded 34 different themes and still can’t work out which is best!
As for Velodrome – its my bike that is holding me back from doing it, as I only own a Hybrid.
You can probably rent bikes from there though, but would want my own super fancy schmansy carbob single speeder

Just use their bikes. I think the rules on what you can ride changed last year, so quite a lot of the singlespeed rides you see on the road can’t be used on the track. You need look cleats on your shoes. I’ve just looked at the velo site: Cost includes bike & helmet hire for Taster Sessions (£9.60, £7.50 concessions). Must be booked and paid for in advance. Cancelled sessions can only be transferred or a refund made if more than 7 days notice is given.

Cool – who fancies a taster session in a couple of weeks then?
