I nicked this idea from a fellow commuter. His goals and his already achieved goals are absolutely amazing, and has inspired me to create my own list. I’ll add new ones as I think of them.

Goals Listed: 43
Goals Completed: 32

Devils Hill
Introduction:
This is an affectionate name for the worst part of my journey home. Nicknamed by the Amazing Shrinking Gaz, and it’s stuck with me – so much so, that my wife (runs a t-shirt business amongst other things) will be printing both myself and Gaz one off. I suggested these goals to Gaz, so am going to use them myself.

Rules:
There is only one way up Devils Hill, and thats the Manchester to Hyde. You have to sprint from the 30mph flashing speed sign to Aldi. When I find out the incline (will check Garmin Training Centre tonight), I will post it.

Goals:
Sprint the full Devils Hill Course in 1m 45 seconds
Sprint the full Devils Hill Course in 1m 40 seconds
Sprint the full Devils Hill Course in 1m 35 seconds
Sprint the full Devils Hill Course in 1m 30 seconds
Sprint the full Devils Hill Course in 1m 25 seconds
Sprint the full Devils Hill Course in 1m 20 seconds

This last ones are teasers, because I don’t think its possible, but here goes:

Sprint the full Devils Hill Course in 1m 15 seconds [oops - proved my impossible wrong!]

Sprint the full Devils Hill Course in 45 seconds

Current Record: 1m 03s [27/07/09]
Current Record: 58s [13/08/09]

Weight
Introduction:
My weight was the main reason I jumped on my bike, and I have an ideal weight in mind. Although I was 16st 2lb, I didn’t feel happy with my weight and this drove me to pick up a bike for the first time in 15 years!

Rules:
No dieting pills, just pure hard work

Goals:
Lose 3lb in one week
Weight = 15st 7lb
Weight = 15st
Weight = 14st 7lb

Weight = 14st [29/06/09]
Weight = 13st 7lb [7/09/09]
Weight = 13st [5/10/09]
Weight = 12st 7lb [16/11/09] [28/12/09] [16/01/10]
Weight = 12st

Then, the ultimate goal/goals

Remain under 12st for 1 week
Remain under 12st for 2 week
Remain under 12st for 3 week
Remain under 12st for 4 week

Distance
Introduction:
Obviously this one had to be in here, as the ultimate goal in cycling is to get from A to B, and obviously, that involves some sort of distance in the equation. I only really commute to work at the moment (very rarely go out at the weekends) so this will help me do more miles. Unfortunately for me, I lost all my cycle data in the great Windows Vista crash of 2009, so as of 01/06/09, I only have 1 weeks worth of data – which I suppose isn’t a bad thing. This is what I will base my info on.

Rules:
Only cycling on a proper bike counts – no exercise bikes!

Goals:
Cycle 100 miles in 1 week
Cycle 10 miles in 1 journey
Cycle 25 miles in 1 journey
Cycle 50 miles in 1 journey [current record: 101 miles - 28/03/10 - Cheshire Cat]
Cycle 100 miles in 1 journey [current record: 101 miles - 28/03/10 - Cheshire Cat]

Cycle 500 miles

And now the ultimate challenges:

Manchester 100 miles
Manchester to Blackpool in 4hrs 30m

Speed
Introduction:
I thought I’d achieved my max speed the other month at 33mph. This I managed to beat, as I was duelling with Gaz. I now think I can get faster, all depending on where I am.

Rules:
Max speed has to be registered on my Garmin Forerunner and stored in Garmin Training Centre

Goals:
Reach 30mph
Reach 32.5mph
Reach 35mph
Reach 37.5mph
